Happy Easter .. The Lord has Risen...

The Alleluias are being sung. The fasting is over and now is the time to rejoice and be glad, for the Lord has risen! The entire congregation stood in line, as they were invited for lighting of the candle.

It was midnight. As a young lad I held the Easter candle, and all came forward to light their own from it. Their faces illuminated by the flicker of candle light in the dark.

Wondered why we had advanced the Vigil. The new timings were convenient they said,
as it was difficult for the present to stay awake late.

Recalled the words heard on Friday..

Mathew 26:40 ' and he comes to the disciples and finds them asleep and said to Peter," Could you not watch with me one hour ?"

May the light of the risen lord, fill our hearts this day. Time he rises within us.
Time we came out of our graves, and be in step with the Life he gave us... Alleluia!!

Beautifully written and well said.
So true that we call ourselves his disciples, choose to be up late for christmas parties, weddings. The youth are ok with staying awake at pubs...but easter vigil mass...gosh boring..sweaty..and long. Very sad.

"convenient" sadly rejoicing has become rituals

Articulated well, Roy....true,let the light of the risen Lord shine through us from dawn to dusk, start to finish....even if we are locked in or locked down

Lovely summarisation. Times have changed and people do not have much time to devote to god. An hours mass with full devotion is barely possible now.
" Could you not watch with me one hour ?"
This statement means alot. God is not asking for much just some time in his presence,1 After-all we are celebrating him for everything he had done for us.

A well thought out theme Roy.

May the mystery of Easter, the conversion from Godliness to humanness through birth and the mysterious transformation from humanness to Godliness through death and resurrection , be our hope, forever.
Happy Easter to you dear Roy and all your family members

Well articulated Roy and brings back memories of our youth. It's different these days. Midnight Mass at 10:30 - 11:00 pm to accommodate another group ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Hope you and your family had a blessed Easter ๐Ÿ˜Š

Very true, we have time for everything on Earth, except Time To Spend Before The Hour Of Resurrection. Even our Churches are following the diktats of human frailties.. sad, & weak Human all. Forgive us Saviour Of The World๐Ÿ™
